Welcome!

Hi, I'm Koi! It's great to meet you.

I'm an environmental policy coordinator who decided to make a change from working in government and nonprofit offices to remote and outdoor projects. I started my nomad journey working as a camp host in Patapsco, Maryland, before I moved across the country to start working at music festivals and Burning Man.

I'm also a mobile loctician, which means I spend some of my time traveling to clients to spread smiles through hair.

Along with running Queer Vagabond, I am also a newly published author.

My goal is to help promote forward movement in outdoor spaces and live events towards full accessibility and diversity by giving everyone the inspiration and tools to create their own adventure.

I love self expression, hiking, music festivals, and Burning Man, and want to show that celebrating diversity in the outdoors makes it better for everyone.

How To Use This Blog

Queer vagabonds: Read about my experience traveling as a black queer person with a disability. I share my own transition experience and urge everyone who feels marginalized to reclaim a space that we have traditionally been pushed out of - the camping and RV world.

Van lifers: Read my guide to van life for beginners, especially those interested in schoolies. I started my journey in a Chevy Collins that is now grounded, but gained tons of experience during that time. I share my story about renovating a skoolie, tips for getting on the road, and explain the best ways to live van life safely and joyfully.

Adventure seekers: Visit my travel guide, where I share all of my recent adventures; from hiking trails to scenic drives, city festivals to Burning Man, and what I learned from them.

What Is a Mobile Loctician?

I have been a mobile loctician for 4 years- A mobile loctician goes to people's houses or meets them in a neutral location in order to do their hair. This includes traveling to people far and wide, with the travel fee worked out between the loctician and the client. I originally took the risk to do an apprenticeship from an amazing loctician, and have loved it since.

I do the crochet method, which means that I can work with clients who normally would not get good dreadlocks from a traditional hair salon. I can work with any hair texture, including straight or curly hair, and I can work with people who are balding, need signifiant repairs, or have other hair struggles. I also plan to teach people how to do the crochet method through individual classes, which will empower them to maintain their own locs. I believe that dreadlocks are like music- something everyone as humans can share and have joy about, and have done so forever. Your hair is a part of your body and dreadlocks can be very spiritual- so helping people start, freshen up, or repair them can truly change their lives.

I Wrote a Book!

Mutual Territory_kindle (1).jpg

Both digital and paperback copies available here!

This novel took me two years to write, with my ideas for the story changing over time as I did. It is a fantasy/ cult horror about a race of werecats called Felin.

I am proud to add my book to a genre that is in desperate need of more minority and queer authors and characters. I appreciate the support of anyone who decides to give my novel a try.

Take a peek:

Aurora has two selves- the bloodthirsty werecat, and the calculating human. She's in danger of losing both of them.

Aurora's world turns upside down when she wakes up in a hospital bed, her memory shrouded in mystery. Unbeknownst to her, she belongs to an ancient race of shapeshifters known as Felin, and her abilities have started to manifest in chaotic ways.

New to her life as a werecat and struggling to understand it, Aurora is reluctant to undertake any sort of responsibility. Yet every day more Felin are disappearing, and rumors of the cult in the woods get sharper and deadlier. When it is revealed that she is the only one who can solve the mystery, Aurora risks everything to save her kin.

Join Aurora on her adventure through a brutal world where shadows conceal secrets, alliances are forged in unexpected places, and the strength within one shapeshifter sparks a revolution that will redefine the destiny of the Felin.
